Chickpeas - Indian Style

Recipe comes from Arora Creationsj spice packet for making Punjabi Chole.

Serves: 6

Ingredients:

In Spice Packet (unknown proportions):

  • roasted cumin
  • amchur powder (adds tartness without liquid)
  • roasted coriander
  • black salt
  • ground chiles
  • salt
  • ground mustard seeds
  • black pepper
  • cinnamon
  • cardamon
  • cloves

Other Ingredients:

  • 1/4 c. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 c. chopped ginger
  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 2 diced plum tomatoes
  • 1/4 c. chopped cilantro
  • chopped green chilies (optionals)
  • 3 c. boiled chick peas or 30 oz canned chick peas, drained and rinsed

Directions:

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat for 1 minute.  Add ginger, 1/4 c. chopped onions, 1 tomato, green chili and let simmer for 1 minute.  
  2. Add chick peas and stir constantly for 2-3 minutes.  
  3. Add the Spice Blend and continue stirring for 2-3 minutes.  Full packet is 0.8 oz.  can add less for milder flavor.
  4. Mix in remaining chopped onion and tomatoes, stir evenly until desired texture and remove from heat.  
  5. Garnish with cilantro.  Serve.

  • Hot rice or Indian bread
  • Plain yogurt
  • Potatoes, kale
