Gisella Sorter's Passover Fladen
Preheat oven to 400°
Crust
1 lb.+ 3 T matzo cake meal
1 lb. sweet butter
1 c less 1 T granulated sugar
6 egg yolks
Fillings
Layer #1
Combine the following ingredients:
1/2 lb. gratred nuts or almonds
confectioners sugar
3 or 4 unbeaten egg whites
grated lemon & orange rindLayer #2
Cook 3 lb. Macintosh apples with sugar to taste. When finished, put in a sieve and let drip and dry. Add yellow raisins.
Layer #3
l lb.jar of plum butter (Povidel) (jar is usually 15 oz.)
Add a little lemon juice and a little rum.
Instructions
- Combine crust ingredients. (If using food processor, mix 1/2 above ingredients at a time)
- Roll dough 1/4" thick. Press firmly to bottom and sides of 9" spring form, reserving enough dough to make a lattice top after filling is put in.
- Put nut layer in first, followed by apples, and then the plum butter.
- Put lattice top over plum butter. Brush dough with egg yolk (optional)
- Bake at 400° for 20 min, then lower heat to 350° and bake additional 30-40 min.
